Event Details
TThe 6th annual Island Lake of Novi Triathlon & Open Water Swim, sponsored by Toll Brothers Inc. and FAST (Ford Athletic Swim & Triathlon Club) This sprint event is great for Triathletes of all abilities. The triathlon and open water swim will start from the beautiful community boat house. The bike is on newly paved roads in the Island Lake of Novi community, bike course closed to traffic. The out and back run is on paved roads and packed trails. Stick around after the race for food.
The Course
(Slightly Modified Bike course – still two loops to keep the bike distance close to prior years.)
1/2 mile swim, 12 mile bike and 3 mile run sprint triathlon. The course is all within the Island Lake of Novi community. The bike course is two loops on newly paved roads. The out and back run is on paved walkways and packed trails. The Open Water Swim will be a counter clockwise rectangular loop starting from a sandy beach.
Swim: Same as prior years. We allow an in water start but all participants need to start
behind the staring line. We also attempt to set the course up for open water visibility by using
landmarks, as well has buoys to mark the course. The return route is straight back to the tower on
the club house. Most of the swim is deep enough so as there isn’t many weeds growing up to the
surface; if there is we may need to adjust the course to avoid groups of weeds. The provided swim
caps must be worn and the use of wetsuits will follow the USAT guidelines. (Open water swimmers will
do three loops of the swim course)

Bike: NEW THIS YEAR. We will have two loops as prior years and as usual you are responsible to
keep track of your loops. Not doing two loops is an automatic DQ. The route is different in the fact
that you will not go into the transition area coming down off the hill.

Run:Run:Out and back course. Most of the run course is on pavement with the last part of the
run on a trail. There is one water station on the run that you will pass twice, so please drink when
you run pass that aid station. The major difference of the course from prior years is that you will
be required to run out on the sidewalk for the first mile and run back on that same sidewalk on the
return. We need to keep the road clear for the new bike route! We can have the new bike route this
year since new homes line the road and the sidewalks are all connected to allow us to run on them.
