Event Details

The 7th annual Island Lake of Novi Triathlon & Open Water Swim, sponsored by FAST (Ford Athletic Swim & Triathlon Club) This sprint event is great for Triathletes of all abilities. The triathlon and open water swim will start from the beautiful community boat house. The bike is on newly paved roads in the Island Lake of Novi community, bike course closed to traffic. The out and back run is on paved roads and packed trails. Stick around after the race for food.

The Course

(Modified Bike course – 2 complete loops without the confusing corner)

1/2 mile swim, 12 mile bike and 3 mile run sprint triathlon. The course is all within the Island Lake of Novi community. The bike course is two loops on newly paved roads. The run is a loop around the lake back to the boathouse.  The Open Water Swim will be a counter clockwise rectangular loop starting from a sandy beach.

Swim: Same as prior years. We allow an in water start but all participants need to start behind the staring line. We also attempt to set the course up for open water visibility by using landmarks, as well has buoys to mark the course. The return route is straight back to the tower on the club house. Most of the swim is deep enough so as there isn’t many weeds growing up to the surface; if there is we may need to adjust the course to avoid groups of weeds.   The provided swim caps must be worn and the use of wetsuits will follow the USAT guidelines. (Open water swimmers will do three loops of the swim course – no wetsuits this year for open water swim prizes/awarrds)

Bike: NEW THIS YEAR. We will have two loops as prior years and as usual you are responsible to keep track of your loops. Not doing two loops is an automatic DQ. The route is different in the fact that you will not go into the transition area coming down off the hill.

Run:Run: NEW FOR 2009; no longer an out and back.  This year the run will be around the lake.  It starts off the same and continues into the woods.  Then you run out the back end of the woods and continue the run on the back side of the course.  Most of the run course is on sidewalks/pavement. There will betwo water stations on the run.
